In 1948, the Technical Sergeant Rank was renamed as Sergeant 1st Class while remaining an E-6 Rank. In 1959 with the reintroduction of the Sergeant rank it was moved up and became an E-7 Rank where it has remained. These Sgt. 1st Class Ranks are from WW2.
